Incidents and Pyrotechnics: FC Hansa Rostock vs Hertha BSC Game Report

According to the security forces, there were no major incidents during the police operation during FC Hansa Rostock’s second division game against Hertha BSC. The game (0-0) on Sunday was classified as a high-risk game because of the rival fan camps.

A total of 2,600 Hertha football fans traveled to Rostock. According to the police, the shuttle to the Ostseestadion remained quiet. The shared walk of 700 Hansa supporters to the stadium only caused short-term traffic disruptions.

During the game, people from the Berlin spectator block tried to dismantle the glass partitions to the south stand. The partitions were damaged. The police had previously agreed with FC Hansa to deploy security forces between the home and away fan areas and to separate the supporters of the two clubs.

Hertha fans burned pyrotechnics during and after the game and also threw them in the direction of the police officers. “The suspects are now being investigated for violating the Explosives Act and causing grievous bodily harm,” said the police statement.

A pig’s head, which was placed in the area of the south stand and was covered with a Berlin fans’ scarf, caused “in addition to chants, further provocations from both fan camps.”

Several fans from Berlin reported to the police because Hertha paraphernalia they were carrying had been stolen by unknown people. A total of two criminal complaints had been filed by late Sunday afternoon. According to the police, 850 officers from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Berlin and Schleswig-Holstein were on duty.
