No one expected that during assembly there would be such a restoration of the schemes. This is what Ivan Hristanov, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture in the “Petkov” cabinet, told BNR.
“The requests from the participants in the assembly were that there would be a heavy correction that would not allow that criminal, criminal and sloppy attitude to continue, which we were tired of in the last 15 years,” he specified.
“There was no border control at the border. The mafia was in charge there. There was no way for me to check the volumes of drugs, but weapons, of migrants who were passing through in refrigerated trucks and found them in Austria and in England. We found total ignorance. At the first inspection, it was even seen that the customs officials did not have the routine of checking the fruit and vegetable trucks, which is their job,” said the former deputy minister of agriculture.
According to him, it is understandable that “the mafia wants to return to the border”, but the complete inaction of the official government of Galab Donev and the “Denkov” cabinet is incomprehensible:
“It is clear that they will want to return and put their hands again on these cash flows with which politicians were bought. … This money is directly involved and destroys the political life of Bulgaria. I want to send a message to GERB and to PP-DB. During my tenure as Deputy Minister I found numerous documents that all along EU colleagues, services, committees and the EP were aware of how serious the “Captain Andreevo” problem was. It was the main obstacle to admission of Bulgaria to Schengen”.
Ivan Hristanov emphasized that the bill to limit the possibility of having another laboratory at the border post – not the BABH, which he and his colleagues prepared in the 48th National Assembly, was introduced in April 2023 and is still “maturing”.
