The incidence value in Hamburg continues to fluctuate. On Wednesday it fell well below the 100 limit. But loosening the lockdown? The Senate rejects this for the time being.

Hamburg – The infection process in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg has made a significant leap down again. 223 new infections were reported on Wednesday, as the health authority announced. But that was 30 less than on Tuesday and 96 less than on Wednesday a week ago. The seven-day incidence fell from 100.9 to 95.8. Compared to the previous week, the value fell by 14.2.

Lower Saxony 1138 new corona cases (Wednesday, May 05, 2021)
Schleswig-Holstein 291 new corona cases (Wednesday, May 5th, 2021)
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania 263 new corona cases (Tuesday, May 4th, 2021)

Incidence value Hamburg: Corona numbers fall below the 100 threshold – but curfew remains

The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days is an important indicator for assessing the overall corona situation. A stable value below 100 is an important threshold to approve relief in the tough lockdown. The incidence had already been 98.6 on Monday. The Robert Koch Institute, which has a different calculation basis than the city of Hamburg, has reported a value below 100 for eight days in a row.

Nevertheless, the Senate currently sees no scope for easing this week. Health Senator Melanie Leonhard (SPD) warned against hasty steps in a debate in front of the Hamburg citizenship. In February and March it was “painful” that premature openings could dramatically increase the rate of infection in just a few days. By Easter, the incidence skyrocketed to more than 160. It is now important that the next steps are discussed calmly and well together.

Incidence: Senate observes corona numbers – special session due to easing lockdown

The Senate will hold a special session on Friday. A spokesman had already outlined a possible roadmap from the lockdown on Tuesday. If the incidence remains below 100 for five days in a row, the first thing to do is to remove the curfew, against which an ever-increasing displeasure is directed. Thereafter, simplifications for daycare centers and schools as well as more freedom for vaccinated persons * are planned.

While other countries have already stepped forward with easing, especially on the last point, Leonhard has remained rather cautious here as well. In your opinion, equality between vaccinated and tested people is a “difficult debate,” she said. It must also be taken into account that it is not only about the vaccinated, but also about a large number of non-vaccinated people. Since the vaccine is still in short supply, younger people in particular have no chance of rapid relaxation for the time being. * 24hamburg.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
