Incidence of Covid-19 increases rapidly in Poland until strict restrictions apply until Easter / Article / LSM.lv

In order to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in the country, partial quarantine will be introduced in Poland from Saturday for three weeks. The Polish Minister of Health has called on employers to provide teleworking as much as possible. It is also planned to restrict the work of shops, hotels and schools.

The decision to tighten the restrictions was taken by the Polish government after the rapid spread of the so-called British version of Covid-19 in the country. There are currently around 25,000 new infections registered each day and, according to Health Minister Adam Nezelsky, that number will soon reach 30,000 without stricter limits, seriously jeopardizing the healthcare system’s ability to provide care to all patients.

For example, on Wednesday, the authorities reported that 25,052 cases of infection were registered in the last 24 hours, 453 people have died. During the week, the number of infected has increased by 38%, but the number of deaths has increased by 24%. Since the beginning of the pandemic in Poland, almost two million people have been infected with Covid-19, and more than 48,000 have died.

“Unfortunately, the third wave of the coronavirus is coming to an end. I call on all Poles to stay at home and to keep all activities to a minimum. We are facing very difficult weeks, ”warns Polish compatriot Deputy Minister of Health Valdemar Kraska.

The restriction plan approved by the government stipulates that shopping centers, hotels, swimming pools, gyms and schools will be closed in Poland at least until April 9, ie also during Easter. The current restrictions no longer allow access to restaurants and fitness centers, while only first-graders were allowed to attend schools.

In Poland, the population vaccination campaign is in full swing, with almost three million people vaccinated so far and 1.6 million receiving both doses (Poland has a population of 38 million).

Poland has not followed the example of several neighboring countries and continues to use AstraZeneca to vaccinate its population. Officials say more than 500,000 people have received the AstraZeneca vaccine in Poland, but only 0.36% of vaccine recipients have experienced side effects. Health Minister Adam Nezhelsky hopes that up to 60-70% of the population will be able to be vaccinated by the autumn.
