Incidence back below 100 – Germany

Spahn warns of loosening the rules for indoor spaces / vaccination record on Wednesday.

(dpa / BZ). For the first time since mid-March, fewer than 100 people per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide have been proven to be infected with the coronavirus within seven days. Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) nevertheless warned against loosening the precautionary rules indoors – as happens in parts of southern Baden on Saturday.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the seven-day incidence fell to 97 on Friday – from 104 the day before and 126 a week ago. The health authorities reported 11,336 new infections within one day – around 7,000 fewer than a week ago. However, it is possible that fewer offices forwarded their data on Thursday because of the holiday.

Spahn emphasized: If there are opening steps with an incidence below 100, these should happen outside. This applies to outdoor catering, small concerts or a football game with a reduced number of participants and a spacing and hygiene concept. “I can only advertise with the federal states and counties that we wait until we are below 50 incidences, especially in indoor catering,” he said. If several people stayed indoors for a long time without a mask, the virus could spread easily, said Spahn.

In parts of Baden-Wuerttemberg, relaxation will also come into effect indoors this Saturday. If the incidence in circles is below 100 for five days in a row, outdoor and indoor restaurants, for example, are allowed to open between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. with hygiene requirements and test concepts. The southwest is a nationwide pioneer in opening up indoor catering. In southern Baden, gastronomy in the districts of Emmendingen, Freiburg, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Emmendingen and Lörrach is allowed to reopen on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the corona vaccinations are progressing faster: According to the RKI, more people in Germany were immunized against the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen on Wednesday than ever before. More than 1.35 million injection syringes were used, on Ascension Day there were 408 260. According to Spahn, almost two percent of the German population were vaccinated on both days. 35.9 percent are now vaccinated at least once, 10.6 percent are fully protected.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, however, so far 13,000 people who have been vaccinated twice have also tested positive for the coronavirus. It is not clear whether the infection occurred with full vaccination protection, i.e. more than 14 days after the second vaccination, or before, the ministry emphasized. 662 twice vaccinated people who tested positive died. Vaccinations can prevent corona infections in most cases, but not 100 percent.
