INCAA President Carlos Luis Pirovano Faces Backlash for Controversial Plans – ATE Calls for Action

Through a statement, the Association of State Workers (ATE) made public the intentions of Carlos Luis Pirovano, the new president of the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA). The official was appointed a week ago. He is a liberal economist, outside the world of cinema.

According to the organization, Pirovano spoke out against the reinstatement of 170 workers; he announced that he would not support any more festivals; He assured that he wants to sell the Gaumont Cinema and intends to close the Cine.Ar and Cine.Ar Play platforms.

“He emphasized his intention to continue in a second stage with new layoffs of the temporary plant, voluntary retirements and early retirements for the permanent plant,” ATE spokespersons said in the statement. And then they added: “(Pirovano) Detailed an action plan with a view to reducing spending, he asked himself: ‘Why have a television channel and a platform?’”

According to the words of ATE, the president of INCAA “proposed the elimination or at least the reduction of the control activities carried out by the Control Management, the closure of federal scope programs, and even the closure and sale of the Cine Gaumont”, the historic movie theater that is located in front of Plaza Congreso, Buenos Aires.

“In terms of festivals, he suspended the end of any type of support for them and even outlined a plan to sponsor the Mar del Plata and Ventana Sur International Film Festival, to directly avoid its closure as it was considered unnecessary to the functions of the Organization” , they denounced.

At the end of the statement, ATE called on the audiovisual and media community to “declare itself on alert” and to mobilize collectively with all sectors to carry out the necessary actions and thus “confront this brutal attack.”
