The president inaugurates the Third Street Photography Festival (FOCA) Tabasco 2023, which brings together local, national and international specialists for three days in Villahermosa.
The participation of numerous young people interested in this type of photography stands out, mainly starring the human condition in public places.
With the proposal to continue spreading photography, because it is culture and art, and also very good for society, people and the soul of human beings, Governor Carlos Manuel Merino Campos launched the Third Festival of Street Photography (FOCA ) Tabasco 2023, which takes place in this capital from November 9 to 11.
By welcoming national and international experts and professionals of street photography, as well as amateurs who join to learn and practice, he highlighted the presence of numerous young people who are interested in this type of photography, starring mainly the human condition in public places.
Accompanied by the Secretary of Culture, Ramiro Chávez Gochicoa, the president commented that this type of photography is spontaneous, because it allows us to draw attention to places and spaces in the cities and their streets, “which with the sensitivity that characterizes them, these professionals They know how to capture and share their wonders with us.
He recognized the efforts of the Ministry of Culture to bring the festival to Tabasco for the third consecutive year, which year after year has been strengthening, raising its quality, presenting events of great interest and inviting the best specialists from our state, country and the world, like David Gibson, renowned British street photographer.
Merino Campos mentioned that currently, with modern cell phones, high-resolution photographs are taken, which allow those who are not professionals in the field, “to feel like street photographers a little bit.”
“When we like something and we are passing by, we capture the moment, and it makes us feel like a professional,” he stated to the Undersecretary of Reading Promotion and Publications of the Ministry of Culture, Melina Pedrero Hernández.
On the occasion, the Secretary of Culture, Ramiro Chávez, thanked the state Executive for the trust in him and for contributing decisively to Villahermosa hosting, for the third consecutive year, the only Street Photography Festival in Latin America.
“For the same reason, I greet with affection all the international, national and local photographers who accompany us, and who with notable generosity have contributed to Villahermosa becoming an epitome of great fortuitous moments,” he stressed.
Ramiro Chávez maintained that urban wandering is where unknown faces become memorable characters, cities move at the rhythm of those who walk through them, their personality is linked to those who inhabit them and, at the same time, they have fascinated and calmed the anxiety of those who seek an explanation in their lives.
He believed that they have been the setting for countless stories that have left a deep mark on the collective unconscious of humanity.
“Street photography allows us to portray with an individualistic aesthetic the challenges of a changing society and, on more than one occasion, the anonymous people who inhabit the sidewalks, who end up becoming involuntary icons of a generation,” he pointed out.
In the Antonio Ocampo Ramírez Art Room, he assured that like the great poets, the participants of this third edition of the festival will find inspiration to try to capture the character of a city that is in constant movement.
“The next time we walk through the streets of Villahermosa we may see details that previously went unnoticed or a surreal moment that remains for posterity,” he stressed.
In turn, the Undersecretary of Cultural Development, Alexandra Rebolledo González, explained that since 2021, the Ministry of Culture identified an unexplored niche in Latin America, an area of opportunity with enormous potential due to the considerable number of interested photographers who currently practice photography. street.
He said that until that moment there was no forum that brought them together to explore techniques, share experiences, learn about projects and most importantly, generate links around this artistic exhibition.
“In response to this need, the current administration undertook an unprecedented project at the national and international level, which has managed to generate the interest of the creative community as demonstrated by the results of its first two editions. Despite its short existence, FOCA has achieved the support and recognition of the federal Ministry of Culture by incorporating it into the support program for cultural and artistic festivals,” he said.
Rebolledo González highlighted that, with the launch of the first street photography festival in Latin America, the Secretariat of Culture of Tabasco became that agent that manages to bring together the most outstanding international and national photographers, bringing to Villahermosa recognized groups, urban observers, and thousands of fans.
“FOCA turned its gaze to an artistic expression of great relevance that, despite its importance, is still considered marginal, because it does not receive the same attention as other expressions. But the street photo has that special magic that allows us to capture the ephemeral moments of everyday life, and reflects the living cultural heritage of our streets and communities,” he said.
During the three days of festival activities, workshops, conferences, exhibitions, photo walks, round tables and portfolio reviews will be offered. Admission is free for all events.
