ABU DHABI – Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel , Yair Lapid, inaugurated the country’s new embassy in Abu Dhabi during the Zionist state’s first official visit to United Arab Emirates (UAE) since both countries normalize the relationship last year.

Speaking at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Yair Lapid appeared to poke fun at other regional foes in his remarks.

“Israel wants peace with its neighbors – with all its neighbors. We’re not going anywhere. The Middle East is our home… We call on all countries in the region to recognize that, and come to talk to us,” he said, according to a transcript released by Israel’s Foreign Ministry. The Guardian, Wednesday (30/6/2021).

Israel and the UAE – the economic powerhouse in the region – have secretly cooperated for years on their common enemy, Iran, but only officially signed a diplomatic agreement known as the Abraham Accords in August 2020.

The normalization of relations between Israel and the UAE, as well as several other Arab countries, is overseen by the Donald Trump administration, which sees it as an important aspect of its “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran.
