Member of the Bundestag Alois Gerig came to Grorinderfeld for an inaugural visit. Mayor Johannes Leibold has been in office for almost five months, and that’s when the representative from Hpfingen wanted to introduce himself in Grorinderfeld. “I actually do this with all newly elected mayors in the district, because there are always points that can be discussed directly together,” said Gerig at the official greeting in the town hall.
Leibold told him that despite the Corona crisis, he had worked well into his new position and was looking to the future with great optimism. “But I’m also happy when Corona is over,” Leibold openly admitted. Many paths are currently more difficult to walk than in normal times. So he is annoyed by the limited public traffic in the town hall, but it cannot be solved otherwise.
Gerig wanted to know specifically from Mayor Leibold what effects the crisis would have on the community. Leibold was able to list several things at once, but he preferred to do so with practical examples.
He presented three projects to the member of the Bundestag. On the one hand, the company Seubert Feinkostmanufaktur. It only moved to its new production facility in Gerchsheim in September 2019. The company is known for its individual offer for gastronomy and large events. However, since the beginning of April all wheels have been standing still. Almost all of the almost 80 employees, says Marcus Seubert, are on short-time work. “The crisis has hit us completely,” says senior boss Walter Seubert.
Hoping to rethink
From the end of June, they want to start producing again because the situation is slowly improving. Alois Gerig agrees. “I hope that something will develop in the catering industry.” As Chairman of the Committee on Food and Agriculture in the Bundestag and a qualified agricultural master, Gerig is very concerned about good nutrition. He hopes that the Corona crisis will change the way people think and that food will finally regain the status it deserves in society.
For Gerig, this also includes production in the country and no imports of products that can also be manufactured in Germany. He had to think much more regionally. Marcus Seubert tries as far as possible to shop regionally, but sometimes the high-quality ingredients for the company’s products are not available anywhere.
“The most important goal of all measures by the federal government is to avoid bankruptcies,” said Alois Gerig, promising Seubert further support within his means.
This also applies to agriculture, the second visit point in Grorinderfeld. On a rapeseed field, seed cultivation expert Gerhard Banzer showed the member of the Bundestag the effects of drought and frost damage. The major damage caused by the frost this year is well known. Winter wheat in particular is a total failure in some regions. It would be helpful here to include the damage in the elementary insurance, and this is exactly what his committee is working on.
Banzer also discussed the impact of the new fertilizer regulation, which would make it difficult for farmers in the region to cultivate the crops individually. Gerig also clarified that the problem was manifold, but they were also working on solutions here.

“Children felt very comfortable”
Mayor Leibold’s predecessor Anette Schmidt had created one for the daycare center in Gerchsheim at short notice by moving into the Dachsberg School. In the meantime, the renovation for the actual provisional is well advanced, and the children felt very comfortable, said the mayor. Now you have to consider what to do with the old part of the building. An expansion of the crèche or a similar use is envisaged if the entire community of Grorinderfeld continues to grow as it does at the moment. The convenient proximity to the upper center of Wrzburg simply increases demand.
Alois Gerig thanked the mayor for the insight into the community life and for addressing the currently pressing problems. He offered to help him whenever necessary and hopes for a continued positive dialogue.
