Mexico City. The commissioners of the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) are confident that they will materialize the dialogue with the president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum through the next Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, as they stated this Wednesday that she has been in contact with them and that she is open to listening to them.
After the inauguration of the National Open Government Summit at the INAI headquarters, Commissioner Norma Julieta del Río told the press that Rodríguez is waiting to take office as head of the Ministry of the Interior to listen to them. “Teacher Rosa Icela has been in contact and has said that she can listen to us at some point, she is open to dialogue.”
She added that “Teacher Rosa Icela understands the issue, she knows what it is about, we know its origin, so there is hope because there has been dialogue.”
He added that Sheinbaum has hinted that the dialogue could take place through the current head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.
“She hinted in the media in an interview that we might be received by Secretary Rosa Icela. I must say that the Secretary of Security has indeed shown interest in talking with us, she is surely waiting to take over as Secretary of the Interior,” he said. “Teacher Rosa Icela has been in contact and has said that she can listen to us at some point, she is open to dialogue.”
The organization’s president, Adrián Alcalá, stated that they have not received a response to the calls for dialogue that the organization has made to Sheinbaum and the legislators.
However, he said that Sheinbaum has not closed the door to a rapprochement, and added that the INAI will continue to insist on dialogue until the last moment.
“I don’t think that he has closed the door on us. He hasn’t said no to us,” said the commissioner president when questioned on the point. He added that although the opinion of the reform that seeks to eliminate the institute has already been approved by the House of Representatives committees, there is still time before the eventual vote and final approval of the reform, so he pointed out that there is still room for dialogue.
“We will continue to insist on this dialogue, we will not tire, we will not stop until we reach the limit precisely in seeking this dialogue,” he stressed. “We are confident that we have this possibility,” he added.
