Of the approximately 4.05 million cases (totaling over 130 billion yen) paid by the government to travel agencies as compensation for canceled bookings due to the suspension of the government’s “Go To Travel” tourism support project , an investigation by the Accounts Commission revealed on the 12th 9,969 adequate payments were made for a total of approximately 217.39 million yen.
Payments were made even though the travel agency had mistakenly sent booking information other than the actual one and asked for improvements.
The activity began in July 2020 with the aim of supporting the tourism industry, which has seen a drop in demand due to the new coronavirus infection.
