In Yambolsko, domestic pigs are being registered because of the African plague – 2024-04-01 12:58:43

IN Yambol region begins an active campaign for registration on pigs, grown on private farms. This was decided by the regional epizootic commission in response to a recently discovered outbreak of African swine fever in the city of Saedinenie, Plovdiv region.

In the Yambol region, which has 109 settlements, there are only 189 registered farms of the “backyard” type, where pigs are raised, explained Dr. Stoyan Kolev, head of the “Animal Health” department in the Regional Food Safety Directorate , quoted by BTA.

He called the remaining personal farms illegal.

Officials from the Regional Directorate of Food Safety together with the mayors and deputy mayors will start registering all private holdings raising from one to three pigs for domestic needs.

It will be explained to the private farmers what biosecurity measures should be taken. Violators will be punished according to current veterinary legislation.

Regarding pig farms in Yambol region, veterinary control there is weekly and no additional measures will be imposed, said Dr. Kolev. “We have five industrial farms with 40 thousand pigs. We also have four family farms with up to 1000 pigs. Their owners have been warned about the outbreak,” he pointed out.
