In which countries is it more expensive to buy an iPhone?

With the launch of the new iPhone 16 and 16 Proa recent study by Compare the Market Australia has revealed that Turkey, Australia and New Zealand have experienced the largest increases in iPhone prices over the years.

Home and contents insurance comparison experts analyzed the initial price of the flagship iPhone models since 2007 in eight countries around the world.

Countries where it is more expensive to buy an iPhone

In Türkiye, iPhone prices have almost tripled in a decade, with a staggering increase of 3,235% ($2,409). For example, In 2014, an iPhone 6 cost only $75 USD in this Middle Eastern country, becoming one of the most affordable globally. However, this price has been raised to $2,482 for the latest iPhone 16 Pro.

This increase is due to the multiple taxes applied to imported mobile phones, added to a strong inflationary rebound in 2022.

Buy an iPhone 15 Pro in Türkiye represents more than double the price compared to the United States. On the other hand, the United States reported the lowest price increase in the last decade, with only 54% ($347).

Increasingly expensive devices due to superior features

Meanwhile, Australia and New Zealand recorded the second and third largest price increases, with a 107% ($618) and 100% ($598) respectively in the same period of ten years.

Adrian Taylor, General Manager of General Insurance at Compare the Market, said the research highlights the importance of protecting personal valuables.

“It’s no secret that smartphones have increased significantly in price over the years, especially with the introduction of larger screensmultiple cameras and faster processors,” Taylor commented.

“However, these devices are exposed to daily wear and tear and can be accidentally lost or damaged. Replacing them can become an expensive headache.”
