For more than two years since the COVID-19 pandemic began, we have lived through different stages of it, as well as through different waves of infections which have usually been caused by variants of the original strain.
To know more about the variants it is very important to know their origin, that is why we will talk about in which countries they have emerged the most contagious variants and dangerous COVID.
Each of the variants has a series of mutations that are distinguished from each other, which has put scientists around the world in check and is that each one represents a different challenge. The most notorious and considered variants with a faster level of contagion are the Delta and Omicron, although now Centaurus is also being talked about.
What is the country of origin of the variants?
Without a doubt, SARS-CoV-2 HAS had a large number of variants; nevertheless, we are going to focus on the origin of Delta, Omicron and the most recent, Centaurus.
The first to appear of these super variants was Delta, its detection was in October 2020; however, until April 4 of that same year it was considered by the WHO to be a worrying variant. The country of origin of this was India.
The second in lifting all alerts was Ómicron, of this we do not know with certainty in which country it evolved; however, it is known that it was on the African continent and according to the World Health Organization (WHO) South Africa is taken into account. Omicron became a worrying variant on November 24, 2021.
Finally, the most recent variant that has drawn the attention of the WHO because it is highly contagious is Centaurus. This variant, like delta, was first detected in India; however, this was targeted less than a month ago, on June 30. It is believed to be five times more contagious than omicron.
It is also important to mention that the first variant of the original strain of COVID was Alphawhich originated in September 2020 in the United Kingdom and raised the alarms of the WHO on December 18 of that same year.
