L’Autre Soie’s hybrid project is progressing well, and is juggling several irons in the fire: housing is being built in a lot that will host craft activities, but also the future 1,000-seat performance hall of the CCO, the social and cultural innovation lab of which Harout Mekhsian took the helm a few months ago.
“Making these three activities coexist is an urban bet. In general, the challenge of a theater is to get away! », he explains. The general budget of the project is 70 million euros.
Delivery scheduled for September 2023
Controlled sound emergence, public access and exits thought out upstream, but above all the involvement of future residents in the project today are the pillars of a bet to succeed.
Pending the delivery of the room in September 2023, many activities are taking place under a large marquee of equivalent gauge, purchased by three between the CCO, the Théâtre du Grabuge and the event organizer Mediatone.
Once the room has been delivered, the 30,000-euro marquee will be shared between cultural structures in Lyon by the Cagibig association. In the meantime, the consultation begins with the inhabitants, users… of the 1.4 hectare park of L’Autre Soie with a view to making it one of the first self-managed parks in France.
Everything is to be imagined: governance, uses… First works planned for 2024.
