One driver was killed in a collision of two trucks on the road Smiltene-Gulbene on Friday, Jānis Lūks, the head of the Patrol Police Division of the Vidzeme Region Bureau of the State Police (VP), informed LETA.
The other driver, in turn, was injured and taken to a medical facility.
“Currently, all operational services are working at the scene to assess the circumstances of the traffic accident. We have also sent an investigation team to assess whether the drivers have complied with the work and rest regime,” said Luke.
Traffic at the scene of the accident has been restored in one lane, but it must be taken into account that the traffic will be slower. The police representative called on the drivers to be very careful today and choose the speed appropriate for the weather, because in Vidzeme the carriageways are covered with a layer of snow.
