Today, France Bleu Elsass introduces you to a new Olympic discipline: table tennis. Jean-Jacques from the Fessenheim-le-Bas Ping-Pong Club will explain in more detail the rules of this sport, which is more complete than it seems.
Table tennis, also called “ping-pong”, is a racket sport played by two or four players around a table. Table tennis is a recreational activity, but it has also been an Olympic sport since 1988.
Due to its low cost and simplicity, table tennis is a very popular leisure activity. 17% of families in France have a ping-pong table at home, and it is estimated that there are more than 3 million occasional players, for 159,000 licensed players in France.
