Didier Crisse – his name as a writer – is one of the greatest authors of comic current, appearing in the Top 20 French-language comics.
His albums regularly exceed 100,000 copies sold.
Youth Grand Prize in 2004 at Angoulême, he lives Nieul-le-Dolent since 30 years, where he cultivates discretion.
Native of Brussels, Didier Crisse has always loved to draw and his parents encouraged him.
He also dreamed of being a footballer, but the Spirou journal, to whom he had sent some artisanal comics, welcomed him :
I was not at the level at that time, they made me progress. I didn’t know anyone in this business, I created 10 pages per week.
Launched by Spirou and Tintin
His first big comic book, Ocean’s King, is a story of dolphins, “probably a little ahead of its time”; then he creates the series Nahomi, “A kind of Christmas story that takes place in Japan”, long before the success of manga.
This time it’s the journal Tintin, the great competitor of Spirou, which opens its doors to him.
“This is how I became a full-fledged comic book author”.
His series, with a “semi-realistic” drawing and always a second degree humor, are renowned : Nahomi, The Crystal Sword, Little Man, Kookaburra, Private Ghost, Luuna, etc. His stories, which can be linked to the genre “ héroic-fantasy », Ask him a very large work of documentation.
Atalanta, his flagship character (11 volumes), is a young woman who accompanies Jason on the Argos in search of the Golden Fleece. This series earned him many admirers :
“In the comic book festivals where I am invited, there is a majority of girls who ask me for autographs. “
Unlike others, he does not have a character that he has animated since the beginning of his journey. He is in constant inspiration !
Nieulais for 30 years
Why settle in Nieul ?
With my parents, we came on vacation to Jard-sur-Mer. I wanted to buy, but on the coast it was a bit expensive. The agency took us to the house I currently occupy, it is sunny and we are not very far from the beach, after all. I have been in the Vendée for 30 years and I feel as much Nieulais as Brussels. I am here, in a certain anonymity. I was only recognized on two occasions, including once by a summer visitor who, like me, was shopping at the supermarket in Nieul!
He was awarded the medal of the municipality during his prize in Angoulême.
Crisse has been emulated by Vendée : “I am proud to have trained several Vendée comic book authors who have succeeded in making a name for themselves in the profession: Cyril Trichet, Serge Perrotin, Jean-Charles Gaudin, and many others. “
