In Valle del Cauca there are 156,000 vaccines against covid-19 that are about to expire

The Departmental Secretariat of Health has launched a special appeal to the population of Valle del Cauca to participate in the anti-covid-19 vaccination in order to continue immunity against the virus and avoid serious illnesses. This taking into account that the department currently has more than 150,000 doses of biological available.

According to María Cristina Lesmes, head of the agency, in the Valley there are 156,000 doses of vaccines that could expire if not applied quickly.

“We ask Dr. Carolina Corcho, Minister of Health, to review the vaccination rates, the rate at which we are vaccinating and, Above all, we ask for the use of such an important biological in the arms of people who have more than four doses, healthcare personnel, people who have comorbidities or high vulnerability. to ensure that covid-19 stops wreaking havoc among us and that we use an expensive and important resource,” said Lesmes.

Reiterating the request to the Ministry of Health to authorize a fifth dose for people who have already applied four, health personnel and people most vulnerable to contracting pre-existing diseases, the official recalled the need to apply the reinforcements of the anticovid vaccine.

“I ask because I learned that immunity is lost after the fourth month; second, because there is an increase in covid-19 cases. We have had children with covid-19 hospitalized in the intensive care units of Club Noel and Fundación Valle del Lili,” said the secretary of Valle del Salud.

It is worth remembering that people over the age of 18 can apply the fourth dose of the vaccine, at the points enabled in both private and public Health Performance Institutes (IPS).

WHO has launched an ambitious public health plan for 2023

The consequences that the covid-19 pandemic has left on the world have soured the agendas of multilateral organizations fighting for the right to food safety, health, animal rights and the environment.

However, The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced it will launch a joint action plan called “One Health” to collectively prevent, predict and respond to major public health threats.

To achieve this, WHO will have the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the World Organization for Animal Health. (OH).

“Ultimately, this coordination should improve the health of humans, animals, plants and the environment, contributing to sustainable development”warned WHO in a public statement.

Some of the foundations of the plan had already been launched on 18 October 2022, in a joint event at the World Health Summit in Berlin, organized by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Museum für Naturkunde and the Planeta Sano-Gente Sana Foundation.

The execution of this plan is expected to allow humanity to recover from the delays left by the emergence of covid-19 in the quality of life of millions of people. Among other things, there has been an economic slowdown, a deterioration in food security and a global decline in the coverage of health services such as vaccination.

For this reason, the foundations of the WHO action plan were also discussed at the biennial World One Health Congress. “The focus of that conference was how One Health could support recovery from covid-19 by integrating science, policy and clinical practice. The pandemic has prompted many governments to seek guidance and the One Health Joint Action Plan will provide them with a framework within which to move forward,” WHO said in the statement.

There he also invited the various multilateral organizations to carry out joint work with “innovative approaches and the strengthening of social, administrative, scientific, economic and political will”.

And he called governments on the need for greater investment in research projects focused on improving the quality of life of millions of people. For example, they highlighted the need to generate new knowledge and sustainable scientific interventions that empower local communities and promote positive change.
