Tijuana.- During this week and the next, the application of the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 will continue in children between five and 11 years of age, and later the application of the second dose will begin, said José Adrián Medina Amarillas, head of the State Health Secretariat.
“We are insisting that we are going to keep the application of this first dose in force, until we approach those 350,000 minors” which is the goal in the state, he added.
In this age group, vaccination has already exceeded 160,000 applications, reaching almost 80% of this population with the first dose applied, considering that almost 35% of children under this age in Baja California have already received their vaccine in the United States ( 122 thousand 500), added Medina Amarillas.
Adding these amounts, around 282 thousand 500 minors from five to 11 years of age would already have at least their first dose of vaccine and this represents 80.70%.
Before the registration of minors from five to 11 years of age for the application of the first dose, the head of the Ministry of Health indicated that the state goal of vaccination against Covid-19 was 350,000 minors and this Monday indicated that they expect reach 100% of this population over the course of these two weeks.

“We want it to be 100%, we know that a child who is not vaccinated implies the risk of complications or having a consequence that we do not want, we do not want him to reach the hospital,” he explained.
Given the public’s concern about the application of the second dose in this age group, the Secretary of Health mentioned that the World Health Organization (WHO) has explained that they have up to 42 days after the first vaccine to apply the second.
