The order to shave came after the President of Turkmenistan appeared in public in the national headdress after the death of his father.
Officials and heads of private companies in Turkmenistan were temporarily ordered to walk with their heads shaved and wear national skullcaps, this is due to the mourning declared in the country due to the death of the president’s father, Radio Liberty reports.
Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov (father of the country’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov) died on May 18, he was 88 years old.
For 40 days after his death, mourning will last in the country and the rule will be in force – the heads of state institutions and private enterprises are required to shave their heads and wear a takhya (the national Turkmen skullcap). The requirement applies to men.
