In the Thionville conurbation, families where both parents work in Luxembourg are a classic case.
It is therefore necessary to be able to rely on a flawless organization to leave (and return) from the office with peace of mind. Some use family solidarity to pick up the children after class (thank you grandparents!); others are lucky enough to find a accommodating nanny on schedules that can often be late due to unpredictable travel times depending on road traffic or the regularity of trains. It also happens that large companies established in Luxembourg offer crèche places to their employees. The system is practical but you have to be able to manage a round trip with baby in the car, which is not easy.
In Thionville, the municipality became aware of the necessary adaptation of its extracurricular services years ago. Children of school age can be welcomed in their respective schools from 7:30 a.m. It is the Atsem who take care of them until the time when class begins (8:20 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. depending on the schools). Evening care is provided by the extracurricular animators of the social centers of the municipality. Until recently, the service ended at 6:30 p.m., but given the recurring delays of parents, for the reasons mentioned above, the closing time was extended to 7:00 p.m.
