This is what the northern lights looked like on Sunday evening in Naantali. Reader’s photo
On Sunday evening and at night there is a perfect chance to see the northern lights, if the cloud cover allows it.
Meteorologist on duty at the Meteorological Institute Jari Tuovinen says that the northern lights can be seen all over the country, but the situation is unfortunate because of the clouds.
– There are only a few areas in Finland where Pilvipeite is not on the road.
– One area is a fairly small strip in southwestern Finland from the Turku region in the direction of Hanko. The capital region is under a cloud of fog, so you can’t see anything there, says Tuovinen.
According to Tuovinen, there is also a cloudless opening in Southeast Finland at the moment, where seeing is possible.
– Then you have to go quite a bit north before the next opportunity comes. There are some gaps in the sky in the Sodankylä–Muonio–Kittilä area.
You shouldn’t wait until the coming evenings to see the northern lights.
– This particular particle eruption will occur this evening, in the morning the probability is already lower. By the next night, this eruption will be over, Tuovinen says.
