In the villages of the Hérault, “it is the death of the public service”

In Hérault, La Poste announces its intention to reduce the working hours of its offices. Jean-François Guibbert, mayor of Lespignan (Hérault), was interviewed in “the morning phone call” on Sud Radio on May 6. “Le coup de fil du matin” is broadcast every day at 7.12am in the morning show hosted by Cécile de Ménibus and Patrick Roger.

“They want to go from 35 to 5 pm”

The mayors are mobilizing in many communes of the Hérault around the same subject: the duration of the opening of post offices. “We hear that La Poste must modernize, but it does not see it from the right end, judge Jean-François Guibbert, mayor of Lespignan (Hérault). These are decisions taken without consultation. They have evolved a bit in their proposals, but there is a reduction in working hours which takes neither human nor public service into account. “

“We are speaking out against this because in our villages we have elderly populations who have imperative needs for postal services, if only to collect their retirement”, explains the city councilor. What would this revision of the hourly amplitude be? “They simply want to halve it, to go from 35 to 5 pm The first proposal was to leave only the opening to the public in the afternoon, and not even on Saturday. At this level, we Had told them it was better to close immediately. In the villages of the south, we think of something quite different than going to the post office in the afternoon. “

“A full time in two municipalities

Is it a question of numbers? “Absolutely, I had suggested to them at least to maintain the hours in the morning and on market days. Today, we know very well, through our contacts within the Post Office, that the decision has been taken, because it was announced to the CHSCT. Nothing officially reached us while thewe know that they want to set up this service at the end of June.”

What about the reception in a small business? “Those who put it in place come back. This is not the right solution. Here too, it is the death of the public service. Lespignan is more than 3,300, the neighboring town, in the same situation as we, has 4,100 inhabitants. We had proposed to make a reception alternated with a full time in two communes, they did not want to hear it. The lack of consideration of these people for their employees and the authorities that we are bothers us a lot.”
