Al-Marsad Newspaper: The astronomer, Khaled Al-Zaaq, revealed why he named Souq Waqif, in Doha, with this name.
Al-Zaaq said that 250 years ago, people came from all over the world to the Souq Waqif area, especially from the Gulf, and they sold while standing due to the intensity of the trade.
He went on to say that Souq Waqif is one of the most famous markets in the Gulf, and it was named after it, because people and merchants were standing there and not sitting, and whoever sat there lost his trade.
