The anti-Covid vaccination campaign must start by the weekend in public nursing homes in the Var. The vaccines, which are due to arrive this Tuesday, January 5, will first be delivered in three “control establishments“. Among them: the Riondet gerontology center, attached to the Hyères hospital (Var), where the first bite will take place by Friday.
However, no date has yet been communicated for private retirement homes, the majority in the Var department. Several directors of establishments told France Bleu Provence “be in the dark, without any information“and have not started the consent surveys to collect the opinions of residents or their families before the first bite.
Other nursing homes are taking the lead, such as those managed by the Chemins d’Espérance association in Ollioules (Canto Maï) and Toulon (La Rose des Vents). Francis Covato, director of the two establishments, explains having organized several conferences with doctors to talk about the virus and the vaccine to the 185 residents.
The Var continues: “Even if we do not know when the vaccination campaign will start, we are ready. We have assembled a team of three nurses and a coordinating doctor in charge of vaccinating the residents who so wish. We have also prepared the place where they will be. stored doses.
They will first arrive at the association’s central pharmacy, which will store them in freezers at -80 °. Then she will send them to us and we will have four days to vaccinate residents keeping the vials between 2 and 8 degrees. “
In Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, around 60,000 elderly people housed or hospitalized in 800 nursing homes and long-term care units are potentially affected by this vaccination campaign.
