Experts said that the Tesla autopilot could not cause a fatal accident. According to them, two men who were then inside the electric vehicle were to blame for the incident.

In April 2021, a deadly accident involving a Tesla Model S electric car occurred in Texas. The National Transportation Safety Board found out new details of the incident. About it told on the Teslarati website.

In the spring, two men who were in a Tesla Model S died tragically after colliding with a tree in a residential area. After that, the electric car caught fire, and this incident received wide publicity.

Immediately after the fatal accident, Tesla was sued. The autopilot system was blamed for everything, which could lead to a collision.

Harris County District 4 Constable Mark Herman said no one was driving the vehicle at the time of the collision. The reconstruction of events confirmed this.

At the scene of the accident, one man was in the front passenger seat, and the other was in the back. A family member of one of the victims told authorities that he saw him climb into the back seat after the electric car started moving.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Board immediately launched an investigation into the incident. Through collaboration with Tesla, it was determined that the autopilot system was not activated prior to the accident.

Tesla noted that the autopilot cannot be turned on on the road without markings. Moreover, if the autopilot was helping to drive the car, someone would have to be in the driver’s seat.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Board believes that the accident was the fault of men. Most likely, they were in a state of intoxication and moved to the passenger seats right during the movement.

Experts found that the speed of the electric car was too high. That is why the Tesla Model S caught fire shortly after the collision.

Previously Focus wrote that the Tesla Model S electric car was the culprit of a large-scale accident in San Francisco.
