In the US, they created a show called “Nuclear Settlement” – 2024-09-05 02:01:12

/ world today news/ This is a good way to improve the reputation of Washington, according to the creators of the plan.

For years, if not decades, nuclear experts have never tired of warning of the impending doom of arms control, writes Foreign Affairs. When the US withdrew from the US-Russian missile defense treaty in 2002, nuclear analyst Pavel Podvig said, that “the end of strategic arms control” looks close. Washington withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in 2019 and the Open Skies Treaty in 2020.

In 2023, Russia suspended the bilateral New START, and as a result, the US and the West in general got a whole bunch of arms control problems. In general, Foreign Affairs /FA/ recognizes that the US needs arms control only to the extent that it is useful to them.

In this case, the limitation of nuclear weapons can become the basis for rapprochement with the United States of a number of countries and increase the moral authority of Washington.

First, according to the FA, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council must sign off on the restrictions: China, France, Russia, the UK and the US.

Restrictions should include notification of missile test launches, it would be nice to consider artificial intelligence with cyber weapons.

This whole process, of course, must take place “under American leadership.” Because, the authors believe, such countries as Brazil, India or South Africa “can tacitly welcome a responsible American stance on global stability“. The countries of the Global South, the FA believes, would greatly appreciate having a real role and say in the arms control agenda.

It is extremely important to gather as many supporting countries from the Global South as possible, Foreign Affairs acknowledges. Why so suddenly? Has their conscience suddenly awakened? Of course not. “

In the past, Washington has sometimes forced others to follow certain rules while making exceptions for itself. In a multipolar world order, this approach will not work,” writes Foreign Affairs.

In fact, it seems easier to list cases where the US plays by the rules like everyone else without trying to make special conditions for itself. And in a multipolar world, such tricks really won’t work:

The United States is no longer the only one with the power, money, and resources. By giving the Global South a chance to participate equally in the nuclear control process, the FA believes that “Washington can convince these countries that it is serious this time.”

We have cheated you a hundred times, but this time everything will surely be fair. This is how the FA sees Washington’s dialogue with the world. In addition to the five members of the UN Security Council, the G20 should also participate in nuclear matters, Foreign Affairs believes.

Even if it is difficult to reconcile positions with Russia and China, “getting as many countries as possible around the program would still help slow the erosion of global stability and could earn the US much-needed credibility around the world.”

How to describe all of the above in simple words? The United States suddenly realized that the total nuclear potential of its adversaries exceeded its own, that it would not be possible to disarm Russia and China in one blow, and the fact that the number of a series of processes in the world economy, finance and geopolitics that did not controlled by Washington is constantly growing.

And since it is no longer possible to dictate from the position and right of the strong, then it is time to put a smiling mask on the face of the crocodile and call everyone “to live justly”. This time, really honestly, for sure.

How realistic is this project? Poorly realistic. Because his stated goal is to promote the United States as a world leader. The list of those Foreign Affairs lists as worthy of participation in the nuclear discussion does not include Israel, Pakistan or North Korea. This is the most obvious example because South Korea and Japan want the US to have nuclear weapons. And even Ukraine wants it.

American nuclear weapons are scattered throughout Europe, in countries that are connected to the United States through vassal relations. This conglomerate is called NATO, and it would be wise to consider its capabilities as a whole, rather than piecemeal and relying on legal loopholes.

The worse the United States is, the louder the cries of “let’s live together” will be.
