In the US, the bird flu virus was detected in a herd of dairy cows

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been reported for the first time in cows in Texas, Kansas and New Mexico (USA). Symptoms such as: reduced milk production (lactation) and low appetite – mainly occurred in older dairy cows.

The results of samples taken at the end of March this year confirmed the pathogenic bird flu virus in cows. It is believed to have been caused by migrating wild birds, as information was received from surrounding farms about dead poultry found on their premises. Samples were also taken from these birds.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that the commercial supply of milk to the market remains safe and does not pose a health risk to consumers. Milk entering the market is subject to strict safety requirements.

At this time, scientists have not determined that the Avian Influenza virus has become more contagious to humans, so its current risk to the public remains low.

VMVT specialists, in turn, call on public health institutions, nature protection institutions, associations of animal breeders and other interested parties to monitor the (LPPG) situation and, if there is any suspicion that mammals have had contact with infected LPPG birds, to inform VMVT.
