Proctoring is the procedure for monitoring an online exam, where everything is supervised by an administrator – a proctor. Such systems gained popularity during the pandemic due to distance learning. Proctoring software uses a webcam and microphone to keep track of the student where he is looking, whether he is pressing keys. If a person’s behavior seems suspicious to the system, then the exam result may not be counted.
Students are complaining about the proctoring software and have already signed petitions asking them to stop using it. Twitter user too criticized system of the Proctorio company and shared the fragments of its code. He looked at a Chrome extension to install before testing. The student found that the program might not count the test score if it detects “unusual clicks” and “eye movements”.
Proctorio then filed a user complaint. The company representatives claimed that the young man violated her rights. As a result, Twitter hid the student’s posts.
