The girl was reported missing on November 2. How she disappeared is not specified, but it is known that with the kidnapper – 61-year-old James Herbert Brick – she traveled through several states.
The man took the teenager to his relatives in Ohio. But when they realized that the girl was underage and wanted, he had already left.
When they were on the road, the girl was in the back seat of a silver Toyota car. She showed the driver of the car, who was driving in the back, a gesture that she saw on TikTok – it is used to report domestic violence and that they need help.
The man understood the signal and, as Toyota continued down the highway, followed her and informed the 911 dispatcher of her whereabouts. The police stopped the car as it exited the highway near London (a city in Kentucky).
Brick was arrested and sent into custody with a bail of $ 10 thousand. When investigators examined his things, they found a photo of a sexual minor on his phone.
The sheriff’s office did not specify what kind of gesture the teenager showed, but most likely it was an international universal signal for help in case of domestic violence or other disasters, it can be given with one hand. To do this you need:
- raise your hand with your palm to another person;
- bend your thumb into the palm;
- fold your fingers over your thumb.

1. Hold hand up with palm facing other person.
2. Tuck thumb into palm.
3. Fold fingers down over thumb. pic.twitter.com/gsIgSbXOmc— Halton Police (@HaltonPolice) August 24, 2021
