For a week, the American right has denounced the desire of the Democrats to deprive the country of gas stoves, after the sentence of a federal agency employee on their danger. A real fantasy and a moral panic moreover, since no measure is planned on the subject by the executive.
America is afraid. For a week now, millions of households have been going to bed anxiously every night, gripped by the fear that at any moment the FBI, the army, maybe even Joe Biden could come tumbling down, breaking down the door, shoving the fridge, knocking over the kitchen table, to dismantle and take with them the gas stove, no doubt shouting leftist slogans under the gaze of the crying kids. Of course, not everyone is resigned. Ordinary citizens or elected to Congress, some seem willing to intervene, even sacrifice themselves, in the face of this new interference by the State and its bureaucracy in their lives.
“I will NEVER give up my gas stove, tweeted the courageous Republican Representative from Texas Ronny Jackson. If those White House goons come for her, they’ll have to snatch her from my death-chilled hands. TRY A LITTLE!” A warning also issued by Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton: “The Democrats want to go after your kitchen appliances. Their desire to control every aspect of your life knows no bounds, including how you cook your breakfast. They can’t help it.” As for Tucker Carlson, star mouthpiece of the extreme right on Fox News, he adopted his most frowning air to vituperate in prime time against these “politicians who take themselves for God”, Not less.
