In the United States, it is better to live in Pasadena or Seattle than in New York if you like to read

(ETX Daily Up) – New York or Los Angeles are known to have inspired some of the biggest names in literature. But the same cannot be said of all American cities. A new study ranks the destinations to move in (and to avoid) in the United States for book lovers.

In the United States, Family Literacy Month is celebrated every November. On this occasion, the LawnLove site became interested in American cities where it is good to live in bookworms. It took into account criteria such as access to public libraries, the number of bookstores or book clubs to classify 200 destinations across the country.

California is said to be a particularly hospitable state for people with a voracious literary appetite. Pasadena occupies the first place of the classification thanks to its numerous bookstores and the literary events which are organized there each year.

It is followed by Seattle in the state of Washington. Not surprisingly given that UNESCO made it one of its Creative Cities of Literature in 2017. Many factors motivated this decision: Seattle hosts many literary events such as the Short Run Comix and Arts Festival, which features bands independent comics and self-published works, and the Pacific Northwest Writers Association annual conference.

If Jersey City obtained third place thanks to its impressive number of booksellers, New York is only fourth. Large metropolises like Chicago (No. 13) and San Francisco are lower in the rankings (No. 19). But that is nothing compared to Joliet, Illinois and Sunrise Manor in Nevada, which occupy the bottom spots of this top 200. These two cities are, however, much smaller than most of their rivals, which is probably why their inhabitants cannot enjoy many literary activities.
