In 2021, Intel acquired Mobileye, an Israeli company well known in the self-driving car world. Via this subsidiary, the American microprocessor manufacturer announces that it has developed a partnership with other companies – Benteler EV Systems and Beep – to deploy autonomous and 100% electric shuttles in certain cities on the North American continent.
With a level 4 autonomous driving level, these futuristic-looking shuttles are intended to transport passengers over short distances. For the moment still in the project stage, they should be manufactured in the United States in order to be put into service by 2024. The design is intended to be robust and suitable for use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 7. One of the partners, Beep, has even worked with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – American road safety – to test autonomous vehicles and adapt its technical platform accordingly.
Improve the network of public transport
If the details of the electric motorization of these machines remain unknown, we do know that their use could make it possible to reduce traffic jams, improve road safety, and even transport passengers in areas usually poorly served by public transport. Their arrival in Europe does not seem planned for the moment. Mass production is still planned, which shows Intel’s strong ambition for this project.

Alongside several American companies, Intel is developing an autonomous and electric shuttle. From 2024, it could be used in American cities as a real public transport network.
