Geodis, a transport and logistics provider, is working with the integrator Bastian Solutions to install the AutoStore automated storage and order preparation system on the fulfillment site of a major American clothing distributor. The platform provides both logistics for more than 1,000 stores across the United States and for e-commerce sales. The equipment contract concluded amounts to 48 million dollars. This project is the second AutoStore system set up by Bastian Solutions on behalf of Geodis. “Geodis’ strategic partnership with Bastian Solutions and AutoStore will bring us even greater efficiency and increased capacity, as we continue to meet the challenges of our sector for our customers such as the rapidly changing consumer purchasing habits. and labor shortages ”, says Rob Thyen, senior vice president of engineering and facilities at Geodis in America.
270,000 order lines per day
Geodis estimates that the site will be able to process up to 270,000 order lines per day for the clothing distributor, which would make this AutoStore one of the most important systems in the world. Responding to Geodis’ omnichannel challenges, AutoStore technology will also be used for sending e-commerce returns. The installation of approximately 37,000 m² will also include five robotic arms for the preparation of parts, as well as automated packaging and carton closing solutions, etc. Construction of the site is expected to begin in January 2022 and end in November 2022. ” We pride ourselves on providing our customers with the edge they need to stay competitive, especially as the retail and e-commerce markets continue to change dramatically. With this system, Geodis will be well equipped to meet demand, thanks to the advanced automation of this new omnichannel installation. Commented Marvin Logan, vice president of solution delivery at Bastian Solutions.
