In the United States, cruises resume in July

Cruise giants Carnival, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Carribean, after a long hiatus from the pandemic, have all made official plans to resume travel from a U.S. port in July or August.

Norwegian detailed in a statement Monday that its first cruise leaving from a city in the United States since the suspension of this type of tourism by the American authorities in March 2020 will leave Seattle on August 7, and will be reserved for fully vaccinated passengers. Carnival had already indicated on Friday that three of its subsidiaries, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line, planned to resume trips between Seattle and Alaska from July 24.

Royal Carribean had announced the same day that its trips between Seattle and Alaska would resume in July. The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), the country’s main federal public health agency, issued new rules in early May to allow cruise lines to go back to sea under strict conditions.

Vaccination compulsory from the age of 12… except in Florida?

To promote tourism in Alaska, a law obliging foreign registered boats to make a stopover in a country other than the United States between two American ports has also been temporarily lifted. For Alaska cruises, this meant that ships take a break in Canada, which has banned its waters for cruises until February 2022.

Vaccination against Covid-19 will also be mandatory on Carnival and Royal Carribean trips to Alaska, Royal Carribean specifying that this obligation will apply to people over 12 from August 1. Cruise lines have not yet indicated what will happen with ships departing from other areas.

The CDC recommends that everyone on cruise ships, passengers and employees, be vaccinated. The governor of Florida, where many cruises to the United States depart from, adopted an executive order in April preventing companies from requiring their customers to prove their immunization to the virus.

A true marker of the recovery of this industry in the United States, the reopening of cruises in Florida is becoming clearer, since Carnival has indicated that its subsidiary Carnival Cruise Line was still finalizing its plans for the cruises that will leave in July. of Miami, Florida, as well as Galveston, Texas.
