The demonstration played extra time at Chartres (Eure-et-Loir) until January 2021, to the delight of amateurs and offering a welcome cheerfulness in the greyness of this period of coronavirus pandemic.
Chartres in Lights is back on 10 avril 2021 to celebrate in passing its eighteen years of existence and it will be until the end of year celebrations!
The biggest illumination operation in the world
Completely free event, it represents a unique opportunity to discover or rediscover the exceptional heritage of the Eurelian city.
Obviously with the restrictions related to the curfew, only the local residents of Chartrains will benefit from it initially but, with the future lifting of sanitary measures, here is an idea of exit to be programmed.
By its scale, the quality of its scenographies, Chartres en lumière ranks at the top of the world heritage enhancement operations through light.
Novelties
For this year 2021, novelties are there.
The Saint-André collegiate church and the bridges and washhouses on the banks of the Eure welcome in 2021 an exuberant flora and fauna to make you travel through our world, and often beyond.
The Chartres gallery (formerly Sainte-Foy chapel) is inspired by the decorations of the 14th century stained glass windows of Notre-Dame cathedral to pay homage, once again, to the floral theme.
As evoked Laurent Lhuillery, city councilor delegated to the animation of the city and to the events policy, on the City website, the general idea remains to surprise the spectators.
The idea was, while continuing to work on the architecture, to surprise the spectators by taking them for a walk around the world, with the river as a common thread.
Thanks to last year’s scenography, walkers no longer hesitated to descend further into the lower town.
The idea is continued for this year with more mappings on the bridges and washhouses and the collegiate church in particular.
On the technical side, the use of lasers makes it possible to offer finer representations.
And, for end of the year festivities, surprises are also waiting for you with specific scenographies, enough to make spectators want to come back!
