PSV Recklinghausen has reached the stage goal in the third division: After the undisputed 32:19 (17:10) success at VfL Wolfsburg, coach Daniel Schnellhardt’s team is in eighth place in the table for the Christmas break, level on points with the sixth.
“Sixth place is our goal,” commented the coach in a good mood on Saturday evening, “we are absolutely on schedule.” His team accepted the challenge and delivered a concentrated performance in the bottom group. PSV didn’t run the risk of missing the much-needed win at the end of the year. With sixth place, Recklinghausen avoids the relegation round, but there are still ten games ahead of coach Daniel Schnellhardt’s team in 2022.
Recklinghausen has everything in its own hands
And it remains tight: PSV is level on points with the teams from Borussia Dortmund II, Königsborner SV and Hannoversche SC, but is ahead of the game in a direct comparison for the time being. While Recklinghausen has already played a two-way leg against Dortmund, it will go to Hanover on January 29th.
Recklinghausen won the first leg with 33:23. The second leg against Königsborn takes place in Halle Nord, in the first leg Recklinghausen had an unfortunate 29:30 defeat. So PSV has everyone in their own hands.
Daniel Schnellhardt thinks little of such arithmetic games. The coach is convinced: “If we are finally spared bad luck with injuries in 2022, there is even more in this team,” he said in advance of the game. PSV did not play in the best line-up in Wolfsburg either, Stella Krüger, for example, was only sporadically on the field, Zoe Stens not at all, who was on the ball for second division TV Beyeröhde, for which the circle runner has a second game right.
Annika Fricke best thrower with ten goals
However, Annika Fricke showed once again in Wolfsburg that she is more than just a substitute for the Stens powerhouse at the district. With ten goals Fricke contributed significantly to the sovereign Recklinghausen victory in Wolfsburg. The guests only had problems with the bottom group in the initial phase (7: 8; 17th), before they pulled away for the break (10:17) and gave their coach a restful evening on the bench.
It only got louder again on the bus: on the return trip from Lower Saxony, there was a small Christmas party on wheels. With this victory and this placement in the luggage, the party was, as expected, only funnier.
PSV Recklinghausen: Schultz, Vietor, Pape; Schmidhuber (5), Krüger (1), Küppers (2), Klüsener (2), Benthaus, Janz (6/1), Kegelmann, Fricke (10), Schmidt (1), Fagin (4), Sattler.
