In the south of the Czech Republic, a tornado caused the great damage

On the afternoon of June 24, a tornado caused severe damage in the southern Czech city of Hodonin, Czech media and eyewitness videos reported on social networks.

In central and western Europe, whirlwinds are much more common than, for example, in our Baltic region, but such strong and devastating tornadoes are very rare and occur in Europe about once every few years.

Specialists from ESTOFEX (European Experimental Storm Forecasting Center) have already begun to spread the situation to assess how strong the wind was in the whirlwind, as tornadoes rarely affect weather stations that can physically measure wind speeds.

The main reason for such a whirlwind is the great heat wave that has hit much of Europe. Swirls have been in many places in Europe these days, and devastating storms are also forming in Latvia precisely because of the heat.
