Fürth – Youngster Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen was replaced in his second U21 international match.

The 17-year-old had to be replaced by Jonathan Burkardt from Mainz after just 26 minutes against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Fürth. “He reported problems in the abdominal muscle area,” said U21 national coach Stefan Kuntz after his team’s 1-0 win.

“The agreement was that he would always be honest and let me know relatively early on. That’s why we took it out to be on the safe side, ”added Kuntz. Wirtz should return to his club that evening like all other U21 national players. The winner of the Fritz Walter Gold Medal made his debut in Germany’s top youth soccer team on October 9th and has been Germany’s youngest U21 national player ever since.
