Boxing is wintering in the hands of the underworld and is threatened with ostracism from the 2028 Olympic program due to successive corruption scandals.
“Iman Kelif was disqualified from the World Championship after a gender test submitted to her by the International Boxing Federation” wrote last August, in a clumsy and hasty attempt to discredit the Algerian boxer as transgender. In real life there is no recognized International Boxing Federation, after the IBA lost its certification in 2019. The popular sport has fallen into the hands of thugs and warlords, and the IOC has banned it from the 2028 Olympic program in Los Angeles until further notice. The ring’s various bigwigs have three to four months to change the agenda.
Both this year in Paris and in 2021 in Tokyo, the Olympic boxing tournament took place under the auspices not of the IBA, but of the IOC itself. The conclave of the “immortals” decided to ostracize the international federation (which until recently had the Greek general secretary George Gerolympos) five years ago due to the corruption that plagues the area.
The conclusion of the independent investigation mentions match-fixing in consecutive Olympic tournaments since 2004, bribes to referees and judges, embezzlement of funds and byzantineism in the electoral process. President of IBA since 2020 is a Russian courtier of Putin, the 42-year-old Umar Kremlieva notorious betting “tsar” with a checkered criminal record that includes convictions for extortion and abuse.
The Uzbek wanted in the US
Kremlin’s Uzbek predecessor in IBA presidency (2017-19) Gafur Rakimov wanted in the US for involvement in the Russian heroin mafia – also allegedly controlled by Putin. However, the 73-year-old Rakimov has won defamation lawsuits in three European countries.
The Kremlin’s recent exploits include the celebratory return of Russian and Belarusian boxers to international competitions and the parallel exclusion of… Ukraine. “It is our duty to keep athletes and our sport out of politics. The time has come to allow Russian and Belarusian boxers to return to fighting under their country’s flag.” stated the very president.
Gender tests, which the IOC has rejected for years as unacceptable, are a typo that would have gone unnoticed were it not for her high-profile case Iman Kalif and her Lin Yu-Ting. The two girls who won gold medals in Paris have the right to participate in all events held under the auspices of the IOC.
After the IBA was expelled from the Olympic family, the Kremlin moved its headquarters to Russia, signed a mammoth sponsorship deal with the infamous Gazprom and called Thomas Bach “architect”. Boxing is conspicuous by its absence from the preliminary program of the Los Angeles Olympics. The IOC was quick to clarify that there was no question of banning the sport, but added that a solution must be found by early 2025.
That solution has already been launched with the help of the national federations of Britain, Germany, the USA, the Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand and other countries that boycotted the recent IBA World Championships. The newly formed World Boxing, led by the 42-year-old legend of the ring Gennady Golovkin from Kazakhstan, operates with the discretionary blessing of the IOC but finds it difficult to expand its influence, since the IBA is supported by the majority of national federations (among them the Greek one), while it also has bases within the IOC.
In any case, World Boxing needs at least two years to be officially recognized. “We pledge to keep boxing at the heart of the Olympic movement, defending the interests of the athletes themselves,” its statutes state.
“Hyenas and jackals” characterized the members of the newly created World Boxing, the awesome Kremlinev. The IBA has filed a lawsuit in the Swiss courts against the IOC, and Moscow’s armchair centaurs are speaking of “cold blackmail” and “outrageous political games”, likening it to Hitler’s Germany.
The “lifetime ban” was fake
Last week, a blog posted – and immediately replicated on social media – the news that Iman Khalif “has been banned for life by the Professional Boxing Organization (WBO) and forced to surrender her Olympic medal for failing a gender test”. It was a blatant example of fake news, since this federation deals exclusively with professional boxing, so it has neither jurisdiction nor intention to punish the amateur boxer with the peculiar chromosomes.
“We have never had the slightest contact with the athlete and we wish her the best of luck in her future plans,” announced the WBO, describing the publication as “malicious.” Kelif has taken legal action against celebrities who caused her mental anguish during the days of the Olympics by labeling her as a man. In the athlete’s lawsuit, among others, the Donald Trumpo Elon Musk and the author JK Rowling. “You treated me and my family with cruelty, as a result of which you sent my mother to the hospital,” said the 25-year-old Olympian angrily.
