In several series of articles, viewers will be exposed to the everyday invisible part of theater, digitally telling about the theater culture and the process of creation.
Juris Žagars, a member of the board of Daile Theater, says that the theater viewer has always been interested in the process of creating a theater from within. Understanding this, it will probably be even more interesting for the viewer to watch the show itself.
“The theatrical process is not just what happens before the premiere. It is everything that happens after it, it is the work of critics, it is a process of maturing the show. Some changes take place even after the premiere, when the show has met the audience It is not only interesting to know this, but also valuable to make a good theater experience even more complete, “comments Žagars.
From today, on the website of Daile Theater, it is also possible to walk around the costume exhibition “Closer to Nudity”, which includes 40 costumes. These are both historical and contemporary costumes for theater performances – from Ilmārs Blumbers’ “Joseph and his brothers” to Ilze Vītoliņa’s “Dangerous Communications”. The costumes for the exhibition have been selected by the artist Vītoliņa, who has created costumes for more than 90 Daile Theater performances.
At the same time, Daile Theater is finishing work on the upcoming performance – Māra Zālīte’s play “Smile”, which is staged by Viesturs Kairišs. Dmitry Petrenko has just staged Regina Lake’s “Zemdegas”, but next week Intars Reshetin will start working on the comedy, which was awarded the prestigious Lawrence Olivier Award – “Total Failure”, while Laura Groza will perform a tense and entertaining modern tragicomedy, “Acceptance” that the audience will soon be able to return to the theater, and all new productions will have premieres, Rass said.
He added that when resuming the performances, the Daile Theater will offer the translation of the performances into English subtitles with the help of a digital subtitle device. Aware that the ambassadors of Latvian culture in the world are to a large extent foreigners living in Latvia for a long time, who tell about what they have seen and heard in Latvia, Daile Theater begins with several performances that have won acclaim from spectators and critics, such as “Breath” , “Shakespear in Love,” “The Lion in Winter,” and “The Doctor.” In the future, it is planned to offer translation of performances into Russian as well.
As reported, Daile Theater is a professional Latvian theater founded on November 19, 1920. The first home of the theater was the building of the Riga Latvian Craftsmen’s Relief Society at 25 Lāčplēša Street. Currently, the theater operates at 75 Brīvības Street.
