An expert commission set up by LNMM selected 107 works by artists of all generations to supplement the collection. The collection represents a wide range of visual arts – painting, sculpture and objects, photography, video, mixed media installations, interdisciplinary projects and design works of art. It would not be possible to show the entire Art Collection 2020 in the exhibition hall at the same time, but it will be available on the online platform to anyone interested.
The new platform will feature more than 300 works of contemporary visual art. The platform was created thanks to the support of the law firm “Ellex Kļaviņš” and the State Cultural Capital Fund and reflects the unique procurement of works of art in 2020.
Presenting the new cognitive resource, the director of the Latvian National Museum of Art Māra Lāce will tell about the reasons for its creation, solution and topicality at the opening. The special guest of the event, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Latvia Nauris Puntulis, will highlight the importance of this platform in the context of the development of the Latvian art environment. Līga Mervina, the managing partner of the law firm “Ellex Kļaviņš”, will talk about the motivation of the project support and the main benefits.
In the continuation of the event, Annija Sauka, Head of the LNMM Communication Department, will introduce the structure and content of the “Art Collection 2020” platform to live viewers – show the main sections and available information.
In conclusion, the head of the LNMM Collection and Research Department “Arsenals” (2nd half of the 20th century – 21st century) Dr. art. Elita Ansone will give a 15-20 minute expressive lecture, briefly describing three exhibits of her choice from the museum’s collection.
The opening event of the Art Collection 2020 platform will be broadcast live on both partners’ Facebook pages, as well as on the Delfi portal. Viewers will be able to be the first to explore the new platform, as well as look at the museum’s repository and get to know the addition of the collection up close.
