The game “Among Us” was the big winner of the corona pandemic among video games in 2020, especially via Twitch, the game was a huge success: people compensated for their lack of “real conversations” with the endless discussions and teasing in Among Us: Denn the game is mainly about chatting, discussing and convincing others of your opinion.
In the game, 4 to 15 players must complete a series of mundane tasks on a spaceship, but up to three of them are “impostors” who only pretend to be legitimate crew members. In truth, they are assassins who kill other players.
In briefings after each death, players try to figure out who the killer is and who they are trying to eject from the ship. So the following holds:
- protest your innocence so you don’t get thrown out of the lock
- find out which of the other people is lying and should obviously be thrown out the lock
- (for streamers) still doing so well and entertaining that viewers like you and subscribe
Because the game is all about selling well in reviews and drawing logical conclusions, the game has performed extremely well on Twitch and made some streamers new stars during the pandemic.

Who is the detective playing with? While he’s playing Among Us and things are going pretty bad for him, Benoit Blanc has 4 prominent players on a video call worrying about him:

- actress Angela Lansbury (known from Murder is her Hobby) – Died October 2022
- actress Natasha Lyonne (known from Orange is the new Black and Russian Doll)
The 4 people are all involved in solving criminal cases in one way or another: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is also writing a detective series about the character of Mycroft Holmes.
Does the detective like Among Us? No, apparently not at all. The game can only be seen for a few moments when his friends inform him via video call that they have exposed him as a traitor and must throw him out of the airlock.
Benoit Blanc then makes it clear that he simply can’t do anything with games like that. He needs the thrill and danger of a real mystery.
It’s a good thing that there is still a whole Netflix action movie ahead of the annoyed detective.
What do Among Us think? Apparently he likes it. Among Us has an ongoing film collaboration. “Benoit Blanc” has been available as an in-game skin since December 13th.
