In the Minsk region, 41 pedestrians died in 11 months | Incidents

Over the 11 months of 2023, 148 accidents involving pedestrians occurred in the Minsk region, resulting in 41 deaths and 114 injuries of varying severity, reports BELTA with reference to the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee.

There were 52 accidents due to the fault of pedestrians themselves. There were 69 accidents at pedestrian crossings, in which five people died and 70 were injured.

In this regard, in the Minsk region until December 25, the traffic police is carrying out a set of preventive measures. During this time, public safety police officers will pay special attention to patrolling areas of mass pedestrian traffic.

Also under control are the streets of populated areas, sections of roads where pedestrian collisions are most likely to occur, especially during rush hours and at night.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds that, according to Article 18.20 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Belarus, a pedestrian who moves along the roadway at night without identifying himself with a flicker is subject to penalties in the amount of 1 to 3 basic units or a warning.

If his violation of traffic rules resulted in the creation of an emergency situation, then the fine is from 3 to 8 basic units.

A pedestrian will be fined in the amount of 3 to 5 basic units if he is intoxicated on the road.

If a violation of traffic rules resulted in minor bodily injury to the victim or damage to a vehicle, cargo, road surface, road and other structures or other property, the offender is subject to a fine of 5 to 20 basic units.
