In December 2020, Argentina signed an agreement with Russia for 20 million doses. A new batch of 10 million serums was added from that firm, but so far only 20,979,335 doses have been delivered, that is, 9,020,665 have yet to be received.
This situation generates uncertainty, since at the Gamaleya Institute production has decreased, especially more than 20 days ago when Russia started the war with Ukraine.
The only good news is that the Richmond Institute, a company that has the assets to package the vaccines in the country, has stock available, but not for long.
“From the laboratory they consider that it is too early to make projections, but the reality is that currently there are the necessary materials to continue production normally and meet the demand of the Ministry of Health,” they said from the company chaired by Marcelo Figueiras.
So far, the National Government has no plans to terminate the contract or impose sanctions against Russia.
Even so, the payment of the 9 million doses that remain to be delivered has not yet been made, since the batch is only paid when it arrives in the country.
Currently, the Sputnik V vaccine has been approved in 71 countries, despite not having the endorsement of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Along these lines, the United States and Europe have imposed restrictions on people who want to enter the countries and in this sense, Argentina authorized that those who want to travel to destinations that do not authorize the Russian vaccine may apply a fourth dose of another asset.
