Residents of Kyiv took full advantage of the 34-degree heat and went out en masse to the central city beach. This comes just weeks after the Ukrainian capital was besieged by the Russian army and rockets fell on the city, killing civilians.
Footage from the banks of the Dnieper River shows hundreds of Kiev residents basking in the sun or swimming in the river’s waters. Some of them play beach volleyball, while others just relax.
Summer temperatures coincided with relative peace in the Ukrainian capital after Russian troops were pushed out of Kyiv and concentrated in eastern Ukraine, the Daily Mail reported.
Despite the developments in the city, the signs of the war are still visible – burnt Russian tanks are standing on the outskirts of the city. However, cafes and restaurants are open again, there are tables on the sidewalks and everyone is trying to regain a sense of normalcy. Until they get home for the evening, which lasts from 11 pm to 5 am.
