Director of the WHO Malaria Program Pedro Alsonso said, in Africa, due to the world’s focus on the corona pandemic, services to deal with malaria have been disrupted, so the cases have increased dramatically.

WHO data shows that malaria kills 409 thousand people worldwide, with almost all of them in poor countries in Africa.

“Our estimates depend on the level of service disruption, there could be more than 20,000 and 100,000 deaths from malaria somewhere between 20,000 and 100,000 in sub-Saharan Africa, mostly in children,” Alsonso said. November 2020.
