Alexander Bommes, Esther Sedlaczek and Co. report daily on the Olympic Games from a studio in the middle of Paris. But the filming location has a particularly tragic past.

The whole world is currently in Olympic fever. ARD and ZDF are also broadcasting the 2024 Olympic Games live from Paris every day. Their studio, from which Alexander Bommes (48), Esther Sedlaczek (38) and various guests regularly greet the fans, is located in the middle of the city on the Place de l’Alma, from where you have an impressive view of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine. But the place also has a very sad history.

In 1997, Princess Diana died in an accident under the Place de l’Alma in Paris

There is an underpass under the Place de l’Alma that gained notoriety in 1997. On August 31, Princess Diana’s (†36) car crashed into a pillar in this underpass. She died shortly afterwards at the age of just 36. The accident shocked the world.

That evening, Diana was in Paris with her partner Dodi Al-Fayed (†42). They left the Ritz Hotel, followed by paparazzi. Also in the car were her bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones (56) and driver Henri Paul (†41). Only Rees-Jones survived the crash.
