In the Makniūnai market, Mardi Gras and magical doctors treatment

Last Sunday, the flea market of Makniūnai’s trunks was once again bursting with goods and laughter. Here, not only sales and purchases of goods took place, but also fun Mardi Gras celebrations.

“Our community is one of the most distant communities from the city, we want to keep the popular name of the market and not let it down in any way!” – said Dalė Baranauskienė, the leader of this whole parade. – It is precisely for each market that we keep thinking about what to offer more sophisticated and attractive to everyone who comes here. Well, but when you have such a great holiday like Mardi Gras on your nose, what’s not to joke about!”

The whole community collective did not remain indifferent to the wishes of the leader D. Baranauskienė to enliven the market. Women dressed up as witches with brooms, and Kanapinis and Lašinini didn’t have to look far. They are from their circle, as if they were created for that purpose.

Everyone was most amused by the excessive eating of thick bacon and serving it to those around them. He was cutting ham right there “on the bottom” and, mocking Kanapinis, suggested that he take a closer look at once and recover, not to be so over-wary. However, the winner of Mardi Gras was already clear immediately, how Lašininis would kick, he still “got a skūron” from Kanapinis, and soon after lighting up the beautiful Mora, spring is already here.

“I came from Perloja
Republics, said a man visiting the market for the first time. – Well, everything is more abundant here than in some Varėna. When I found a great product for one euro, I bought it and now I’m taking it home as proof that I was here.”

And the longest queues were at the bacon and sausage vendors. The pendulums of the old scales swung in all directions from weighing the meat. “I’ll take this and this!” – the woman was happy while buying a bacon coat. And when asked who will eat so much, he answered: “My husband and I!” You see how we both are!” – shouted the cheerleader, showing her arms clenched to the sides like strong muscles.

Even the visiting mayors praised the idea of the market, which does not need a lot of advertising to develop.

Traditionally, the market also sold older household items, as well as music audio and video players of those times. Gold-armed dragons brought countless wood and metal products to the merchant. Someone will always need something, because everyone knows that it always is and always will be here.

And after shopping, what’s not to do without gaspads, several types of soup and šiupini. But where will you please the kitchen experts!? For example, Algis from the Merkina region, proudly dangling a plate of soup with a spoon, gleefully exclaimed: “But here you can’t see the meat inside at all. Maybe some bone was hit because of the taste?”

And the elderly couple we met shared the joys of life with a sigh: “We are already waiting for everything: both Mardi Gras and St. Valentine’s Day. We’re at such an age that you have to take everything from life, because we only live for today.” “yes,” the old man replied with a sigh, “doesn’t seem so?” Aha, but don’t say that the passport is lying! Don’t lie! You’re not going anywhere, absolutely. Everything in its time.”

At the end of the market, it was not gypsies, as usual, but doctors dressed in bright colors who moved among the people. Which, right here, after serious operations in the city hospital, everyone who has recovered from alcohol and hard work, rushed to listen to the heart beat and lung work with shower heads. Not finding a single healthy patient, the “doctors” immediately treated the patients with their own medicines, whose health and mood seemed to improve after such an examination. And the family doctor Jūratė Overaitytė-Jakubavičienė, who worked together with them, when asked how she evaluated the work of these colleagues, cheerfully answered: “Oh, seeing how quickly all the patients recover like this, there is definitely something to learn!”

Well, the entire excellent musical design of the market was created and implemented by musicians from the Kibyšia region, Janė and Tautvydas Prieskieniei, who, with the stanzas of the cheerful song “…play this song while going to work, play this song while lying down!” seemed to give meaning to the people of our time and everyday life, so that we may live until then , while we can, today, here and now. Not tomorrow!
